Tiger Brands, based in South Africa, has appointed six new Managing Directors, including former Nairobi Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe.

The company, in a statement, said Igathe was chosen to lead the International Brands Unit, in a move aimed to propel the business ahead.

“We are pleased to announce the internal appointment of six managing directors who will be leading our newly organised business units, following a review of our operating model and structure to enable consumer obsession, agile execution, and innovation,” read the statement.

The other MDs chosen are Quinton Swart to lead the Bakeries section, Dumo Mfini (Culinary), Grant Pereira (Snacks, Treats, and Beverages), Liezel Holmes (Grains), and Ismail Nanabhay (Home, Personal Care and Baby).

The food and beverage company, which has achieved success across the African continent, has operations in 25 countries, with five focus markets in Cameroon, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria.

Igathe, who previously served as Tiger Brands' Regional Managing Director for East Africa from 2008 to 2013, will return to the company in November 2023 as Chief Growth Officer.

The corporate hotshot has achieved tremendous success in the business sector, having led prominent companies such as Coca-Cola, Kenya Breweries, Haco Industries, Vivo Energy, and Equity Bank.

He also served as Nairobi's Deputy Governor briefly in 2017 before unsuccessfully running for the 2022 gubernatorial position.
