President WIlliam Samoei Ruto has just announced that his regime is working to lower the gas prices by over 70%
Insane... I know! But the president promises it is doable.
During the re-launch of the Women Enterprise Fund at KICC the head of state announced that he will start by subsidizing gas tax rates to relatively low rates before enacting his price reduction price.
"Currently Kenyans are buying gas cylinders anywhere from 2 thousand to about Sh. 2800.... Following this we have decided that we are going to lower the 6kg gas cylinder that you guys are buying for Sh. 2000 to about SH.500 or Sh,300.
We are going to set aside government funds to actualize this so that Kenyans can be able to afford gas...." Announced the president.
He maintains this action will help give Kenyans access to cooking gas at reasonable prices thus doing away with the usage of firewood and charcoal in households which President Ruto maintains pose both health and household risks.
Kenyans couldn't hide their joy as they got up to celebrate. Shouts and chants of joy and jubilation echoed throughout the hall forcing the president to halt his speech for a while.
However, netizens on social media streets don't seem to share the same optimism and joy as those on the ground.
Taking to comment sections on different Instagram posts Kenyans voiced their doubts as they claimed that the president was focusing on the wrong things.
Below are a couple of comments from Instagram users:
