The hit single 'Nakupenda' by Jay Melody is receiving raving reviews. The singer has opened up about the success of the song.
He told Millardayo on YouTube that to date, it had been his biggest song. He said it took months to write the song.
"I was the first one to discover the sample to that song online, I sat on it deliberating about it."
He held onto the song for three months after mixing it just to be sure it was what he wanted.
"Napenda kuvunja verse, kurudia yani kuji challenge mara nyingi. Nilipata time sana nawaza sana kutengnena wimbo ambao unaitwa nakupenda, I wanted to prove it would be a hit song."
The 25-year-old said that he has made over 200 million. "Mpaka saa hii ndio inauza kuliko zingine, it is my most popular song."
The song has over 21 million views on YouTube.
"Ata kwa mauzo ndio inauzo kuliko wimbo wowote, imefanya nipate shows nyingi kwa bei kubwa kuna sehemu naenda I sing other songs but it gets fans so excited.
I get gigs because of this song. So you can say I have made a lot of money from this song. Like this year in January alone, I made about 40 million so imagine how much it has made so far," he shared details.
The video was released three months after the audio because of some delays he explains, "Kusema kiukweli watu wengi walikuwa wanalalamika about that."
He said the concept for the video was taking a long time because he wanted it to be relatable for all his fans outside Tanzania.
"It is a song doing very well outside of Tanzania, so why not showcase our country." It was shot twice and took a long to edit also.
The song has seen him land gigs in Qatar, Kenya, Oman, and Uganda. He says he is looking forward to more international performances.
