Ferdinand Omanyala sets new record in his first race of the season

Omanyala won the coveted number one spot in the men’s 60m at the Elite Indoor Track Meeting in Miramas, France setting a new meeting record in the dash.

Africa's fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has started off his New Year on a super high note after he shattered and set a new record in his first race of the season.

The 100m record holder stroked a win in Miramas, France yesterday evening (February 2) as he marked the start of his indoor tour during the World Athletics Silver Label Indoor race.

Omanyala won the coveted number one spot in the men’s 60m at the Elite Indoor Track Meeting in Miramas, France setting a new meeting record in the dash.

In a display of sheer speed and dominance, the Kenyan sprint king blazed through the race, leaving his competitors trailing in his wake. Clocking in at a remarkable 6.52 seconds, securing the gold. and shattering the national record that was standing at 6.54.

Which interestingly was his own record which he set last year at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais in France.

The Kenyan athlete lowered the earlier meet record of 6.57 seconds and was fractions close to beating the world lead, which is currently set at 6.48 seconds.

Cameroonian Eseme Emmanuel-Alobwede came in second 9 seconds after Omanyala clocking in 6.61 seconds with Ivoirian perennial competitor Arthur Cisse coming in third with 6.62 seconds.

Ferdinand secured victory in his preliminary heat with a time of 6.62, earning his qualification for the finals, and as the record reads subsequently enhanced his performance in the final round.

The 28-year-old Kenyan sprinter will now be proceeding to the Capital Paris, for his second indoor meet which is set for next weekend. This is all in preparation ahead of his return to the World Indoor Championships scheduled for March 1 to 3 in Glasgow, Scotland.
