Oscar award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has achieved another milestone, making history as she assumes the role of the head of the Berlin International Film Festival jury.

This appointment marks her as the first black head of the jury since the festival's inception.

In this prestigious position, Lupita will lead a distinguished team in the selection of winning films in the Golden and Silver Bears categories.

The Berlin International Film Festival, known as Berlinale, has been an annual event for 74 years and is among the five largest global film festivals. Serving as the head of the jury for the main categories is a significant opportunity in the industry.

Expressing her honour to serve in this role, Lupita, who attended the opening ceremony, highlighted the diversity and richness of perspectives that come with bringing people from different backgrounds together.

"That's the beauty of bringing people together from different backgrounds, we respond to different things.

We have a lot of world experience and opinion, and it's gonna be interesting. It's probably also gonna be spicy," Lupita stated.
