Colombian singer Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll has during a recent interview revealed that she put her career on hold to support her ex-husband's Gerard Pique football career.

Shakira told the Times of London newspaper, "For a long time, I put my career on hold, to be next to Gerard, so he could play football."

The two separated in June 2022 after 11 years together and five months before Gerard retired from soccer.

They share sons Milan who is 11 and Sasha,9.

She announced this before the release of her new album 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,  which translates to 'Women No Longer Cry" and is her first big record in 7 years.

"There were so many pieces of my life that crumbled in front of my eyes and I had to rebuild myself in a way, picking up the bones from the floor and putting them all together," Shakira shared adding, "And the glue that kept it all together was music."

Shakira avoided talking about her tax fraud case choosing to focus on her first studio album.

The singer said she is in constant contact with Victoria Beckham and she has her hopes up to take her son Milan to a soccer match down in Miami

Shakira continuously released new songs during the relationship, she has never toured since 2018.

But has performed sporadic gigs in recent years including a joint 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show with Jeniffer Lopez and a solo performance at the 2023 MTV VMA's.

Shakira's split went public amid allegations of infidelity on Piqué's part.

It's not lost on her that the separation ultimately led to the star's massive second wind in her career, although she told Billboard that her true dream had been to raise her children with their father.

Gerard Piqué made things official with his girlfriend Clara Chia Marti in August 2023.

Shakira was rumored to be "fun and flirty " with F1 racer Lewis Hamilton but she later cleared the rumor saying she was just being friendly.
