The family of the late Morgan Heritage lead singer Peter Anthony Morgan has given an update on memorial and burial arrangements following his death that occurred on February 25, 2024.

In a statement shared with Mpasho, Peter’s first memorial service will be held in Orlando, Florida on March 7th location TBA.

 

There will be an additional Celebration of Life in Kingston, Jamaica at the beginning of April. The exact date is to be determined.

 “Thank you all again for your continued love and support over the years. Please rest assured that the Legacy we’ve built together will surely live on and will be passed down from generation to generation,” The group said.

The family added that Peetah's burial date will be released soon.

 

Peetah was survived by his loving wife Maria Gunabe-Morgan, 11 children, and 2 grandchildren.

Peetah, who was a cherished husband, father, son, and brother, was also the celebrated lead vocalist of the band which originally included Una Morgan, Roy "Gramps" Morgan, Nakhamyah "Lukes" Morgan, and Memmalatel "Mr. Mojo" Morgan.

 Since the band's inception in 1994, Peetah's smooth vocals have been the cornerstone of Morgan Heritage's musical journey, resonating from their debut album “Miracle” to the latest masterpiece “The Homeland,” a tribute to their Afro-Caribbean heritage.

His unforgettable voice has left an indelible mark on fans worldwide through hits like “Don’t Haffi Dread (To Be Rasta),” “Down by the river,” “Tell Me How Come,” and “She’s Still Loving Me,” among many others.

In addition to his contributions to Morgan Heritage, Peetah Morgan was a multiple GRAMMY award-winning songwriter, producer, and arranger, known for his profound impact on the global music scene.

His legacy extends beyond his musical endeavors, as he will always be remembered for his deep connection to Africa - from the symbolic Kenyan bracelet he wore faithfully to his passionate efforts to spread messages of love and unity across the continent during his numerous visits.

Throughout his life, Peetah remained committed to using music as a tool for spreading positivity and harmony, following in the footsteps of his father, Ras Denroy Morgan Sr.

The untimely loss of this legendary figure leaves a void in the music community, marking the departure of one of the most exceptional vocalists and performers of his time, celebrated not only globally but especially in Africa for his significant contributions.

Lastly, it's noteworthy to mention that Peetah and his brother Mojo Morgan transformed Orlando, Florida, into their home for the past two decades.

They nurtured their families in this vibrant city, creating a loving and supportive environment for their children, thereby building roots and memories that will endure for generations to come.
