Open and friendly relationship with your kids is the way to go. Award-winning photographer and digital content creator Tatiana Karanja advises.

Taking to her Instagram Tatiana, who also goes by the moniker Mama Olive, shared an adorable video showing her and her 3 little girls spending quality time.

In the video she could be seen giving all her kids piggyback rides as they giggled with glee. She went on to highlight several reasons as to why she thinks it's great to be friends with your kids besides being a parent and disciplinarian.

"I've always believed in the importance of having a friendly and open relationship with my kids. The idea that you can't be friends with your kids has never made sense to me.

After all, a friend is someone you have friendly relations with, someone you can trust and confide in. So why wouldn't we want that kind of relationship with our own kids?" Started off the seasoned photographer.

Tatiana revealed how she'd been moved to that conclusion as well as what had fully compelled her to share her lengthy post on parenthood and friendship.

"Recently, I came across a story shared by @destini.ann that really resonated with me. She talked about the definition of friendship and how she doesn't understand why some people shy away from being friends with their kids. I couldn't agree more," the mother of 3 shared.

On what she feels friendship with your children translates to and how to navigate between that line and parenting Tatiana penned,

"Being friends with your kids doesn't mean that you are giving up your authority as a parent. It doesn't mean that your children can walk all over you or disregard your rules. It simply means that you have a close and trusting relationship with your kids, where they feel safe and comforted in sharing their thoughts and feelings with you.

Setting boundaries is essential when it comes to being friends with your kids. It's important to differentiate between being a friend and being a parent. As a parent, you still hold the responsibility to guide and discipline your children when necessary.

Being friends with your kids also doesn't mean that you have to share everything with them. There are certain topics or situations that are not appropriate for children, and it's crucial to protect them from such information.

At the end of the day, I really feel that being friends with your kids can enhance your relationship and create a deeper connection with them. It fosters open communication, trust, and a sense of security for your children. As long as boundaries are maintained and parental responsibilities are upheld, there is no reason why a friendly relationship with your kids cannot coexist with a loving and respectful parent-child dynamic.

I'm really loving and embracing the friendship with my kids, our bond grows stronger each day," the last of her post read.
