Ten months after they split up, footballer Gerard Piqué has spoken up for the first time on splitting with Shakira.

In an interview with El Pais, the soccer enthusiast said;

 "Everyone has their responsibility to try to do what is best for their children. It is about protecting them. That is the job of all parents with children. That is what I am focused on and that is my job as a father."

He added that he keeps doing what he wants "The day I die, I will look back and hope I have always done what I wanted. I want to be faithful to myself. I'm not going to spend money cleaning up my image."

He continued;

"The people that I love and care about are the ones who know me. The rest isn't important to me. I spend my energy on being with my loved ones and giving them what I have. I'm very happy. There have been changes in my life and I have known how to preserve happiness."

In January this year, Pique went Instagram official with his much younger girlfriend.  This came just days after Shakira had released a diss track that broke Youtube records.

Pique's introduction of his new bae on social media came seven months after he and the  Colombian singer split.

Shakira, 45, separated from former Barcelona footballer Pique, 35, in 2022 after more than 10 years together. The pair also have two children together.
