Jamaican dancehall star Vybez Kartel is reported to have a life threatening disease while in prison.

The singer is battling a graves' disease and a heart condition. A graves' disease is an autoimmune disorder that can cause hyperthyroidism, or overactive thyroid.

Speaking to FOX 5 Human rights attorney Isat Buchanan revealed "Mr. Palmer's illness is actually life-threatening. To make matters worse, his attorney notes that for the last week, Kartel has been in solitary lockdown 23 hours a day over an alleged cell phone infraction. He's in a cell, and if you can picture a brick oven, because that's how those cells are built, the ventilation is next to none."

Kartel has been behind bars after being convicted of murder in 2014 where he received a life sentence.

Real name Adidja Palmer, the singer was found guilty of killing Clive "Lizard" Williams at his house in Havendale, in Kingston, Jamaica on 16th August 2011.

According to the Guardian, Williams was killed after being accused of stealing two of Kartel's guns. His body was never found but Kartel's text messages read;

"Tween me an u a chop we chop up the bwoy Lizard fine fine,"

"Yeah man a mince meat dat … As long as u live dem can never find him."

Kartel is known for hits like 'Colouring This Life' 'Summer Time' Enchanting' among many others.
