Israel Mbonyi was born and brought up by Christian parents in the Democratic Republic of Congo on 20th May 1992. His musical journey began at a very young age where he received early training from a music teacher during his childhood.

He released his first debut song on 10th March 2014 known as “Number One” as well as his first album in the same year.

Mbonyi mostly sang his songs in Kinyarwanda until he decided to expand his horizons in 2023 when he started venturing into Swahili music.

His hit song “Nina Siri” received widespread acclaim and resonated with his fans across East Africa and mostly in Kenya and Tanzania.

Wiper flag bearer Kalonzo Musyoka also expressed his admiration for Mbonyi’s creativity and talent.

I’ve been watching this young man called Israel Mbonyihe’s Rwandan but he sings like a Tanzanian. He’s very poetic when he sings ‘Nina Siri…’ then ‘Jasiri…” Kalonzo said.

“Nina Siri” has done so well in the industry since its release and it has more than 47 million views on YouTube.

In December 2023, Mbonyi penned a message of appreciation to Kenyans who attended his concert in Rwanda.
