As we gear on to welcome yet another busy week, it’s time to take a deep breath and give yourself permission to recharge.

Sunday is the perfect day to indulge in a little self-care, and the good news is you don’t need to spend a fortune to feel rejuvenated.

Below are six budget-friendly, and delightfully ways to refresh your mind, body, and spirit for the week ahead.

1. DIY Spa Day

I know a resort spa day hits different but think of the money you'll be saving! Plus there is no timer at all.

Start with a soothing long bath or shower using your favourite soap. Treat your skin to a homemade sugar scrub (just mix sugar, turmeric powder and honey) and follow up with a DIY face mask of mashed avocado and a spoonful of honey. Or whichever at home or store bought masks you prefer

Don’t forget to moisturize with a rich shea butter or coconut oil. The best part? All these ingredients can be found in your kitchen or local kiosk

2. Nature Walk

Get your steps in at your nature trail of choice. Go online, find one near you and plan accordingly. The scenery, and peaceful ambiance make for a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of work life.

This will not only boosts your mood but also helps clear your mind, and find grounding making it the ideal way to mentally prepare for the week ahead.

Pack light snacks in containers as some trails don't allow wrappers in their premises to contain littering. Entrance is mostly affordable starting from Sh.200 and the experience is priceless.

3.Mindful Meditation

Find a quiet spot in your home, sit comfortably, and close your eyes. Focus on your breathing, letting each inhale and exhale centre your thoughts.

Start with just five minutes and gradually increase the time as you get more comfortable. You can watch videos online to help guide you if you're unsure.

To avoid distractions put your phone on silent mode and slowly tap the top of your fingers with your thumb rhythmically as you count to ten. You can also light up your favourite candle, scent or not, or incense sticks and play green noise to help set the mood.

4. Prepare a Comfort Meal

Nothing screams “self-care” like comfort food. After a busy week of eating left overs, ordering takeout or buying easy meals like fries or chapati madondo treating yourself to a home cooked meal is love.

Blast your go to playlist and get dancing as you prepare a warm meal for yourself. Cooking can be therapeutic, and sitting down to enjoy a meal you’ve prepared with love is the ultimate act of self-care.

5. Connect with Friends

In a world where we’re constantly on the go, taking time to connect with friends can be powerfully rejuvenating. If meeting in person isn’t possible, set up a virtual hangout.

You all can rant about your week, share different perspectives and motivation as well as set goals for the new week.

If it is, invite a friend over for a meal and catch-up session. Or alternatively visit them. Sometimes, all you need is a good laugh and a chat to feel re-energized.

6. Reflect and Plan

As the weekend winds down, grab a notebook and pen and jot down your thoughts. Reflect on the highs and lows of the past week, and set simple, attainable goals for the coming days.

This practice helps clear your mind and brings a sense of closure to the week, making room for new opportunities.

Don’t stress about writing something profound this is just for you. Whether it’s a list of things you’re grateful for, a recap of funny moments, or a few words of encouragement to yourself, journaling is a powerful tool for self-reflection.

As you can see, self-care isn’t about bubble baths and extravagance; it’s mostly taking time to nurture yourself in ways that bring you joy and peace.

So, learn to give yourself the gift of time. Whether it’s a few minutes or hours and invest in your well-being. After all, a well-rested you is a more resilient you, ready to tackle the week ahead with a spring in your step.
