American musician/actress Jennifer Lopez (popularly referred to as Jlo) will not be keeping her estranged husband fellow actor/ producer and screenwriter Ben Affleck's surname.

The 55-year-old 'Jenny from the block' hitmaker has requested to drop Affleck’s surname after filing for a divorce earlier this week after 2 years of marriage.

It appears their rekindled romance just wasn't it. The two have been engaged to each other twice: first in 2002, then again in 2021.

Besides the name change Jlo also requested for the judge to not award spousal support to herself and her estranged husband and for both parties to pay attorneys' fees. stating "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for divorce.

Per court documents obtained by several media houses, the 'Enough' actress asked the judge handling their case to change her legal name from Jennifer Lynn Affleck back to Jennifer Lynn Lopez after taking the 52-year-old screenwriter's last name when they eloped in July 2022.

She listed July 16, 2022, the day they exchanged vows in a Las Vegas wedding chapel, as the date of their marriage and April 26 as the date of their separation.

During the time Jlo had gushed over how romantic it was to take up the tradition of changing one's name to their spouse's name after solidifying their union.

“People are still going to call me Jennifer Lopez. But my legal name will be Mrs. Affleck because we’re joined together,” the singer told Vogue back in November 2022.

Adding she was super proud to go by her man's name despite the popularity of her own maiden name.

“We’re husband and wife. I’m proud of that. I don’t think that’s a problem," the mother of two affirmed.

When asked if she considered having the actor become Mr. Lopez, she responded, “No! It’s not traditional, it doesn’t have any romance to it. It feels like it’s a power move, you know what I mean?

I’m very much in control of my own life and destiny and feel empowered as a woman and as a person. I can understand that people have their feelings about it, and that’s OK, too. But if you want to know how I feel about it, I just feel like it’s romantic. It still carries tradition and romance to me, and maybe I’m just that kind of girl.”
