Kamene and Obinna react to Omanyala's visa issue
Omanyala was initially scheduled to travel with the first batch of 23 who left the country on Tuesday
Kamene Goro and Obinna have reacted to Africa 100m world record holder Ferdinand Omanyala's visa delay.
Kamene said;
"He is unable to get it and no one of influence wants to put their foot forward to help him. We have been cheering him for the better part of this year, he's been our silver lining."
Obinna added that there are other athletes from different countries whose Visas have also been delayed.
"Apparently, it's not only Kenya. They (The US) knew very well they were organizing for this competition, they could have liaised with the government of the athletes who were going and clear them," he said.
He continued "But they were just like 'you gonna have to wait when we clear you when we feel like.' So there is a lot of athletes who are stuck in their country they can't make it."
Kamene described people who stand in the way of other people's dreams as enemies of progress, "My oh my don't I have way too many!"
In a statement by The Star, Omanyala said
"This turn of events does not bother me. I don't think it will affect me psychologically because I am ready. I am hopeful that I will get the visa today so that I manage to make it in time. Further delays may disrupt my readiness."
Barnaba Korir, an Athletics Kenya official said they were handling the issue.
“All the team officials have visas apart from Omanyala and the overall team manager David Bunei. However, we are confident they will be sorted out in good time. The problem emanated from how the two responded to some questions at the US Embassy because applying for the US visa is usually an individual affair but we are on it and I believe all will be fine,” he added.
