Netizens are having a field day after Indian police officers accused rats of completely eating and destroying almost 200kg of bhang that had been confiscated from criminals and set aside in lock up as evidence.

Honestly, it is always a sigh of relief to learn that it's not only African countries that have such crazy theatrics. I'm pretty sure the Indian officials got the idea from our Uganda neighbours since their rats are always accused of doing the most.

The peculiar case was presented in a court case in Uttar Pradesh state where officers were unable to produce the confiscated drugs as evidence citing the pesky rodents as to why they had nothing to show.

“Rats are tiny animals, and they have no fear of the police. It’s difficult to protect the drug from them,” read a statement from the court proceedings.

One of the Judges in the case, Judge Sanjay Chaudhary said that they ordered the police to produce the drugs only for them to realize that 195kg of it had been destroyed by the rats.

The judge went on to add that there was approximately 700kg of marijuana locked up by the police in the Mathura district, but they had no idea of how to protect it as “all of it was under danger of infestation by rats”.

Honestly, this is one of the most hilarious things I've heard in a long time!

He then claimed that the police had no experience in dealing with the matter as the rats were “too small”.

Adding that the only way to protect the seized goods from “such fearless mice”, was to auction the drugs to research labs and medicine firms, with the proceeds going to the government.

Kenyans could not grasp how the police seriously wanted people to believe that rats had eaten weed and there were no reported cases of "mad rats" in the state or thousands of their dead bodies recovered.

Below are a few reactions from the forever hilarious Kenyan netizens:
